When people talk about others

New Testament: 2Co 13.1

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Corinthians 13 on September 22, In the year of our Lord 2022

By Don Ruhl

There is a lot of talking about others these days. It seems like more of it goes on than ever before, and that might be because of social media. However, the word of God should still guide our conduct in these matters, such as this passage:

This will be the third time I am coming to you. “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.”

– 2 Corinthians 13.1

Paul quoted Deuteronomy 17 and 19, and those passages teach that one witness shall not stand up against a person. Once enough witnesses have been established as credible, you investigate, but those passages say nothing about spreading what you heard to everyone around you.

Be careful how you handle what others say and even if it is the truth; question yourself on whether you need to spread it around.

Questions:

  • Have you passed on information about someone without checking to see whether it was true?
  • Has someone done that to you?
