New Testament: Heb 11.35b
To read the Bible in a year, read Hebrews 11.20–40 on November 16, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Sometimes when the enemies of God’s people persecuted them, they had a chance to avoid the suffering, if they would acknowledge the point of the enemy or deny something about the Lord, but the writer of the Book of Hebrews said:
Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
– Hebrews 11.35
Their faith in the Lord God carried them through whatever suffering they encountered. May the Lord give us that strength also.
Questions:
- Would you remain loyal to the Lord even in the face of great suffering?
- What did these people obtain instead of immediate deliverance?
