We have not come to Mount Sinai

New Testament: Heb 12.18–19

To read the Bible in a year, read Hebrews 12 on November 17, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Unfortunately, many people have a low view of the church, not knowing that it is the kingdom of God on earth. Although we are members of the body of Christ, we have not come to something like Mount Sinai:

For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest, and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore.

– Hebrews 12.18–19

The church is a matter of the Spirit and so we cannot see its mightiness in the same way that an Israelite could have seen the great sight of Mount Sinai. We can see the church in action, but what it is in the Spirit, we cannot see.

Questions:

  • What do you think is great about the church?
  • Are you a faithful member of the church?
