The Beginning of Self-Control

New Testament: James 3.2

To read the Bible in a year, read James 3 on November 21, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Would you not say that some sins are a matter of lacking self-control? If that be so, then we need to learn to practice self-control. The place to begin is with our tongues, with the words we speak:

For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

– James 3.2

If we can control our tongues, we have acquired the ability to control the rest of the body. Concentrate, therefore, on controlling and using your tongue properly in every situation with every person.

See how far that takes you down the road to self-control.

Questions:

  • Have you prayed to God about your struggles to overcome your sins?
  • If you do not stumble in word, what did James say you are?
