The ancient church at Thyatira was doing well in some things, but bad in others, such as tolerating a woman who taught the saints that they can commit fornication and engage in idolatry. Jesus said of her,
“And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.”
– Revelation 2.21–23
The Lord was not quick to punish her, for He wanted her to repent. He knew the severity of her punishment if she did not repent and He had no desire to put that upon her. However, she refused to repent and paid the price for her impenitence.
Questions:
- Are you slow to repent?
- Why do you wait, dear brother?
