God touches the earth and it melts

Old Testament: Amos 9.5–6

To read the Bible in a year, read Amos 7–9 on December 16, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Listen to the power of the words spoken by Amos and be in awe at the mightiness of our Great Lord God:

The Lord GOD of hosts,
He who touches the earth and it melts,
And all who dwell there mourn;
All of it shall swell like the River,
And subside like the River of Egypt.
He who builds His layers in the sky,
And has founded His strata in the earth;
Who calls for the waters of the sea,
And pours them out on the face of the earth—
The LORD is His name.

– Amos 9.5–6

Picture each of those images in your mind. Then when you see the earth during your travels, just be amazed that our God made it all.

Think of this passage for the rest of the day and stand in awe of the God of heaven.

Questions:

  • What in nature makes you think of the awesomeness of God?
  • When did God lay down the strata of the earth?
