Let every powerful nation, let every powerful business, let every powerful person hear the message of the Book of Obadiah. 

We can so succeed in life that we believe we are invincible, that no one and nothing can bring us down. Let us never forget there is a God in heaven who is higher than all and he can bring anyone down. 

The nation of Edom exalted itself and believed no one could bring it down. Therefore, when others attacked Judah, Edom rejoiced and saw an opportunity to prevail over his brother. (Judah descended from Jacob and Edom descended from Esau.) In response, the Lord of heaven and earth said to Edom: 

“Though you ascend as high as the eagle,
And though you set your nest among the stars,
From there I will bring you down,” says the LORD.

– Obadiah 4 

The Lord made the eagle. The Lord made the stars. The Lord made Edom. Therefore, the Lord is higher than all of them and if he desired to bring one down, he could do it with no trouble. That truth has not retreated, but still lives today. 

Let us humble ourselves before our Creator that he may exalt us according to his will.
