New Testament: Rev 21.21
To read the Bible in a year, read Revelation 21 on December 30, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
John pictured the foundations and walls of the city in heaven in the most beautiful way. Then John showed us this:
The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
– Revelation 21.21
Such wealth goes beyond anything that I can imagine. With what is the road or street in front of your home paved? Is it gold? How rich would your town have to be to pave the street out front in gold?
Yet, John shows a street of gold in the city of heaven. Amazing! However, to walk that street, you have to pass through a gate made of pearl, a really large pearl. You probably know that oysters form pearls after an irritant has gotten inside and the creature secrets a substance that covers that irritation.
Likewise, you will have to endure some suffering before entering the city, even as Paul told some churches: “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14.22).
Questions:
- Are you ready to suffer that you might enter through the pearly gates?
- Do you keep your eyes on Jesus as you experience suffering?
