Old Testament: Gen 11.1
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 9–11 on January 4, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
How can you interact with people if each one does not understand the other? Undoubtedly, you have had just such an interaction, perhaps over the phone, or someone in town, or you were visiting another nation.
It may have been frustrating, but imagine if everyone in the world spoke the same language. It did at one time:
Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.
– Genesis 11.1
I do not recall anywhere in the Scriptures where the Lord tells us that we shall all speak the same language in heaven, but that would seem to be a great idea, or perhaps we will have plenty of time in eternity to learn one another’s language.
Questions:
- Why does the earth no longer have one language?
- Where did the event occur that caused God to break up mankind into language groups?
