A Love/Hate Relationship

New Testament: Matt 14.5

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 14.1–21 on January 19, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

In Mark 6, Herod liked John the Baptizer, but in Matthew 14, the Bible shows another side of Herod and how he responded to John:

And although [Herod] wanted to put [John] to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

– Matthew 14.5

In some ways, Herod respected John and in other ways he wanted him dead. When people are not rooted in the word of God, some of them can be double minded and unstable in all their ways.

Herod liked the preaching of John, except for when that preaching stepped on his toes. Then Herod wanted to rid the earth of John.
