Distractions could cost you eternal life

New Testament: Matt 14.30

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 14.22–36 on January 20, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

Whatever takes our eyes off Jesus is a distraction that could cost us eternal life, just as when Peter walked on water, looking at Jesus, but Peter got distracted:

But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

– Matthew 14.30

This illustrates a great truth that I have witnessed many times over my forty-year plus ministry. A Christian is following Christ boldly, just as Peter did, but then something in the world lures that disciple away from Christ. Some recover, calling out to the Lord, who rescues them, but others just keep going astray and they get so far away, that they lose all resemblance of being a Christian.

Questions:

  • What distracts your attention from the Lord?
  • What do you do to bring yourself back?
