Old Testament: Exo 23.12
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 22–24 on January 30, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
Why did the Lord emphasize that he wanted Israel to keep the Sabbath, the day on which they rested once a week? Listen to what he told them in this reading:
“Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed.”
– Exodus 23.12
He wanted them to know that rest brings refreshment. He created us and he knows that we can only work for a limited time at high efficiency. Therefore, he told Israel to take a day off from all work every week.
While he has not regulated the Sabbath for Christians, we can still learn that for us to function at our best, we need rest.
Questions:
- Do you work constantly?
- How often do you rest?
