New Testament: Matt 26.5
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 26.1–19 on February 10, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
The chief priests, the scribes, and the elders conspired to take Jesus by trickery and kill him, but they said:
“Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.”
– Matthew 26.5
What? If Jesus was evil, do the right thing, whether it upsets the crowd or not! Yet, we know that these men envied Jesus, wishing that they had the multitudes following them as he did.
They were not honest and had to use error to catch Jesus, which should have alerted their consciences that they sought to do evil and not righteousness.
Be honest in all your dealings.
Questions:
- Why did the people like Jesus?
- If you had lived back then, would you have been part of the crowd wanting to get rid of Jesus or part of the crowd wanting to follow Jesus?
