What shows that you have repented?

New Testament: Luke 13.6

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 13.1–21 on April 11, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

We sin, then we repent, but how does anyone know? The Lord Jesus told some people about the need for repentance, and then right on the heels of that, He also spoke this parable:

“A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.”

– Luke 13.6

The Lord continued with the parable.

Right away you see the need for fruit. What good is a fruit tree, if it bears no fruit? Likewise, what good is a follower of Jesus Christ, if he or she bears no fruit of a changed life? When you learn that someone converted to Christ, do you not desire to see the evidence in his or her life? Others, especially God, have that same desire to see evidence in you.

Questions:

  • Does your life show that you have repented of your sin?
  • What would you do with a fruitless fruit tree?
