Old Testament: 1Sa 31.5–6
To read the Bible in a year, read First Samuel 30–31 on April 20, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
The end came upon King Saul just as Samuel had prophesied with the Philistines closing in on him. Saul could see what was about to happen, and he sought to avoid the humiliation that the Philistines would heap upon him by taking his own life:
And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword, and died with him. So Saul, his three sons, his armorbearer, and all his men died together that same day.
– 1 Samuel 31.5–6
Saul fell upon his sword and as you read, his armorbearer did the same. Saul’s sons died in battle. How sad. This never should have happened, but it did because of Saul’s arrogance.
Let us obey the Lord always that our end might be with grace and glory.
Questions:
- Of Saul’s sons, which one was David’s best friend?
- What should you do when you realize that you have disobeyed the Lord?
