Unity, for a while

Old Testament: 1Ki 4.1

To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 3–5 on May 2, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

Initially, there was the potential for division when Solomon first became king, but he acted quickly against the ones who could have precipitated that division.

Then the writer of First Kings could say: “So King Solomon was king over all Israel” (1 Kings 4.1).

Those who caused trouble during the last years of David’s reign, Solomon had held accountable and carried out justice against them. Everything settled down and the unity of Israel continued until three years after the reign of his son Rehoboam.

The only time since, that anyone in Israel or the world could have one king over them is through the son of David, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Questions:

  • For how long did Solomon reign?
  • Who was Solomon’s mother?
