Simeon was not like Judah

Old Testament: 1Ch 4.24–27

To read the Bible in a year, read First Chronicles 3–5 on May 21, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

As Ezra, who wrote First and Second Chronicles, listed the descendants of Simeon, he noted that: “Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters…” However, he went on to say that the brothers of Shimei, “did not have many children, nor did any of their families multiply as much as the children of Judah” (1 Chronicles 4.24–27).

And so it is today. The survivors of Israel all seem to be from the tribe of Judah, and that is why they are called Jews.

However, in the Spirit, the family of Shimei, provided he was a godly man, has grown even more, as he has acquired brothers and sisters without number.

Questions:

  • If you are a Christian, do you see yourself as a spiritual relative of all the godly people in the Old Testament?
  • Do you believe your spiritual family is greater than your biological family?
