Old Testament: Psa 83.1–4
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 82–84 on August 8, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024
By Don Ruhl
In every generation, there are those who fight God’s people, even if his people have not done anything harmful toward those who hate them.
When that happens, we should do as the psalmist, Asaph, did: “Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, and do not be still, O God! For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; and those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, ‘Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more’” (Psalm 83.1–4).
It is not only ancient Israel that they fought against, but they fight against the church of the Lord Jesus Christ also.
Let us then speak to God about it.
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- What do you think Asaph wanted God to do?
- What did does Psalm 84 say about being a doorkeeper in the house of God versus something else?
