Hosea Bible Background

12.09.2014 Old Testament: Hos 2.4–5

To read the Bible in a year, read Hosea 1–4 on December 9, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

Here is something frightening: The possibility of so rebelling against God with no intention of ever returning to Him, that a person decides nothing shall ever turn him back to God. Israel got to that point, and to them the God of heaven said,

“I will not have mercy on her children,
For they are the children of harlotry.
For their mother has played the harlot;
She who conceived them has behaved shamefully.
For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers,
Who give me my bread and my water,
My wool and my linen,
My oil and my drink.’”
(Hosea 2.4–5)

Impenitent shameless behavior finally cuts a person off from the God whose mercy is otherwise, abundant toward mankind. Do not ever let yourself get in the position that Israel did.
