02.14.2016 Old Testament: Lev 19.4
To read the Bible in a year, read Leviticus 18–19 on February 14, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
The Lord warned Israel repeatedly of the danger of idolatry, including this lone verse, lone because the sentences before and after do not address idolatry,
“Do not turn to idols, nor make for yourselves molded gods: I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 19.4).
Israel suffered more for its idolatry than for any other sin. Often the Lord sent foreign nations against His own people, because they had slid into idolatry, and finally He sent them into Assyrian and Babylonian captivities for this sin that insults the Creator of the heavens and the Earth.
I don’t think we notice it much, but I think it’s curious how the principle of this verse is still very much emphasized in the New Testament (Ephesians 5:5, 1 John 5:21).

I agree. We do not talk much about idolatry in the church today, but we should, because the Spirit addresses it in the Scriptures, even in the New Testament, as you noted. Thanks.
