To read the Bible in a year, read First Corinthians 14.1–20 on September 4, In the year of our Lord 2016

The Christians at ancient Corinth did not know how to use the miraculous gift of speaking in tongues. Many of the members were speaking when no one present could understand the language. Paul said,
There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without significance. Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me (1 Corinthians 14.10–11).
They were speaking human languages, but if no one understood the language, it would be like a foreigner speaking, for no one would understand the message. Therefore, the Christians there could control themselves in these utterances, and they were to do so.
- What other languages do you speak, other than English?
- How did you learn to speak those other languages?
