What do you think of the Earth? Is it not beautiful? You think it is beautiful, but you see the Earth after a world-wide flood, and after God cursed the Earth because of Adam’s sin! What was it like before those two events? Nevertheless, look and see how the Lord refers to the Earth,
Thus says the LORD:
“Heaven is My throne,
And earth is My footstool.
Where is the house that you will build Me?
And where is the place of My rest?
For all those things My hand has made,
And all those things exist,”
Says the LORD.
“But on this one will I look:
On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
And who trembles at My word.”
Earth is merely the footstool of God! If Heaven is the throne, its beauty must be beyond our current ability to comprehend! Yet, to Him something else exists far more beautiful and it is the place where He wants to dwell: He dwells with him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, broken over his sin, and yet trembles at the word of God.
- Would you much rather live in a beautiful place, but where the people are arrogant, or in a not so beautiful place where the people are humble?
- Do you have a broken and contrite spirit because of your sin?
