11.20.2016 – Old Testament: Eze 23.19–21
To read the Bible in a year, read Ezekiel 22–23 on November 20, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
Samaria rushed into the idolatry of the nations, and Jerusalem saw her do this and suffer for it. Yet, Jerusalem did not learn and pursued the same things as Samaria, and even became more wicked than Samaria had ever been,
“Yet she multiplied her harlotry
In calling to remembrance the days of her youth,
When she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.
For she lusted for her paramours,
Whose flesh is like the flesh of donkeys,
And whose issue is like the issue of horses.
Thus you called to remembrance the lewdness of your youth,
When the Egyptians pressed your bosom
Because of your youthful breasts.”
The people of Jerusalem acted like they wanted to go back to Egypt, where evidently some of them participated in Egypt’s idolatry!
- Why is it that God’s people are slow to learn from the sins of others?
- Why do God’s people fail to see the blessings they have in Christ?
