Most people have a hard time understanding why they need to know the Old Testament, and when they get to sections such as Ezekiel 40–48, that difficulty in understanding grows.
However, the Lord of heaven put this information in the Scriptures for Christians to know. Therefore, we have to open our minds to His teaching, and read what He has sent to us. That does not mean that we will automatically understand everything the Bible says, but it will change our attitude toward the Scriptures, and that will go a long way toward seeing what the Lord wants us to see.
In Ezekiel 40–48, the Bible pictures for us a temple, giving all the dimensions, including the side chambers,
I also saw an elevation all around the temple; it was the foundation of the side chambers, a full rod, that is, six cubits high. The thickness of the outer wall of the side chambers was five cubits, and so also the remaining terrace by the place of the side chambers of the temple. And between it and the wall chambers was a width of twenty cubits all around the temple on every side. The doors of the side chambers opened on the terrace, one door toward the north and another toward the south; and the width of the terrace was five cubits all around (Ezekiel 41.8–11).
These storage rooms served a purpose and there were many of these large rooms. All the things that the priests used in the temple, did not just suddenly appear, nor did they lay them aside when done, but the God of order and decency wanted things put away.
- Why do you think the Lord revealed this information about a temple?
- Have you not understood things in the Bible initially, but later you discovered the meaning?
