Some charge that the apostles made up the story of Jesus, but Peter let us know that he and his fellow-disciples did not follow clever tales, but they saw the majesty of Jesus of Nazareth,
For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain (2 Peter 1.17–18).
Peter referred to what we call The Mount of Transfiguration, when the appearance of Jesus changed into glory and Moses and Elijah also appeared, talking with Jesus about His crucifixion. Remember that Peter was the one who equated Jesus with Moses and Elijah, wanting to put up tabernacles for all three, as though Jesus was just like the other two.
At that time, the Father announced from Heaven the true identity of Jesus, saying what could never be said about Moses and Elijah.
Peter knew Jesus and knew His true identity. Therefore, the Bible writers declared to us the truth.
- What is your view of Jesus?
- What would you do, if Jesus, Moses, and Elijah appeared to you?
