Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, and he wanted to know its meaning. However, the dream-interpreters could not provide an interpretation, because wisely he would not reveal to them the dream. If they could tell him the dream, then he would know that their interpretation was correct. However, their claim to have the ability to interpret dreams, yet their inability in this case, infuriated him,
For this reason the king was angry and very furious, and gave the command to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. So the decree went out, and they began killing the wise men; and they sought Daniel and his companions, to kill them (Daniel 2.12–13).
He did not just fire them from their jobs, but ordered them removed from the Earth. As they carried out the king’s orders, they came to Daniel and his friends, and they too would have died, but Daniel approached the king, asking for time for the interpretation, but Daniel did not ask for the dream.
Therefore, the king gave him the time and sure enough, because Daniel knew the God of Heaven, the prophet received not only the interpretation, but the dream also.
The king then came in contact with a man that we admire so much, Daniel the prophet, who would teach Nebuchadnezzar of the true God, and the king would learn that he himself was not God.
