Do you understand everything in the Bible? I don’t, nor have I ever met someone who thought that they did, although it would not surprise me to discover someone who thought that he or she did.

Anyway, what should we do when we do not understand something? Shall we just get frustrated and question the Lord on why He did not make His word easier to know? No, of the many things that we can do, we can rest assured that He knows what He is doing and has done. For example, do you understand everything about how the body works? If not, do you just quit living, or do you continue to make the best of life? Even without knowing everything about the body, you go on living. So it is with the Bible. The Book of Daniel has some things in it, that are difficult to understand, including this,

“And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days” (Daniel 12.11).

Let’s say that you examine the context and cannot figure out the meaning of this passage. Does that make the passage useless to you? No, you can still know that the Lord has control of history, including history yet to come. Relax, therefore, enjoy your life as a Christian, knowing that the Lord has everything in control.

Questions:

  • What do you not understand in Scripture, but want to understand?
  • Do you know how to figure out the meaning?
