What happens when we fail to recognize the source of our blessings

Hosea Bible Background

12.09.2016 – Old Testament: Hos 2.9–11

To read the Bible in a year, read Hosea 1–4 on December 9, In the year of our Lord 2016

By Don Ruhl

Israel forgot that the Lord God, Yahweh, had given them all the good things they enjoyed, leading them to credit Baal. The Lord had this to say,

“Therefore I will return and take away
My grain in its time
And My new wine in its season,
And will take back My wool and My linen,
Given to cover her nakedness.
Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers,
And no one shall deliver her from My hand.
I will also cause all her mirth to cease,
Her feast days,
Her New Moons,
Her Sabbaths—
All her appointed feasts.”
(Hosea 2.9–11)

If people forget who blessed them, why should He continue to bless them, and why should He not take their current blessings away? He has the right to do whatever He desires, and He has a right to expect us to remember the source of all our blessings.

Questions:

  • Do you remember the Lord for what He has done for you and given to you?
  • What good thing in your life cannot be attributed to the Lord?
