The Lord knows the difficulties of life, having endured them Himself, and having observed the entire history of Earth, from the time of Adam and Eve to our time. Nevertheless, He still tells us to persevere,

“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth” (Revelation 3.10). 

The Lord does not shield us from every trial of this life, but from some, He does. The ones from which He does keep us, He basis upon our ability to persevere during others.
