12.15.2016 – Old Testament: Amos 5.8–9
To read the Bible in a year, read Amos 4–6 on December 15, In the year of our Lord 2016
By Don Ruhl
The God of the Bible is not some tribal god, known only by that tribe, but our God made everything that exists,
He made the Pleiades and Orion;
He turns the shadow of death into morning
And makes the day dark as night;
He calls for the waters of the sea
And pours them out on the face of the earth;
The LORD is His name.
He rains ruin upon the strong,
So that fury comes upon the fortress.
The constellations you see at night: God made them. When death is certain, but suddenly a man has a new beginning: God caused it to happen. The day and the night: God created them and can reverse them. The waters evaporate from the oceans and go over the land to water it: God calls for it to happen. When the strong are ruined: God did it.
- Do you know this God?
- Do you credit Him with all the good in your life?
