What happens to the enemies of the people of God

To read the Bible in a year, read Micah 4–5 on December 20, In the year of our Lord 2016

By Don Ruhl

When Israel remained faithful to God, He remained faithful to them, fighting their enemies, as Micah the prophet showed,

When the Assyrian comes into our land,
And when he treads in our palaces,
Then we will raise against him
Seven shepherds and eight princely men.
They shall waste with the sword the land of Assyria,
And the land of Nimrod at its entrances;
Thus He shall deliver us from the Assyrian,
When he comes into our land
And when he treads within our borders.
(Micah 5.5b–6)

As powerful as the Assyrians were, they could not compete with the God of Israel. Therefore, if mighty Assyria attacked little Israel, entering their land, then they would pay the price at the hands of the God of Israel. Sure enough in time, Assyria ceased to exist, but God’s people continued.

The same is true today for the church, which is Israel in the spirit. Anyone who opposes us eventually goes down in defeat, but the church continues.

Questions:

  • Are you a faithful member of the church?
  • What has happened to those who opposed you?
