Eventually the Lord settles all accounts

Matthew Bible Background

02.08.2017 – New Testament: Matt 25.19–21

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 25.1–30 on February 8, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

This being the year 2017, it has been 1,987 years since Jesus left the Earth in AD 30. From our view of things, that covers a long time. However, let us not think that He has forgotten that He will return, for notice in one of His parables how He alluded to His return and what He will do at that time,

“After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord’” (Matthew 25.19–21).

Notice the first few words, “After a long time the lord of those servants came…” The lord in this parable is the Lord Jesus Himself, and we are His servants in the parable. Some Christians will go before Him and show that they used what He gave them. He will reward them wonderfully.

  • What will the Lord find in you?
  • How are you using what the Lord gave you?
