To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 4.1–32 on March 24, In the year of our Lord 2017

Imagine that you are a Jew, living over 1900 years ago, and that this Saturday you attend the synagogue in Nazareth where Jesus grew up. And He shows up, stands to read Scripture, and He reads a passage from Isaiah. Afterward, He closes the scroll, gives it to the attendant, and sits down. Then you stare at Him, because He read the passage as though it spoke of Him,
And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4.21).
What would you think? Here was a passage that your people have read for the past 700 to 800 years, and you have heard it often, and then a young man whom you knew as a boy, comes back home, and indicates that the passage is being fulfilled right before your eyes.
Those people witnessed a blessed event, but if you believe that Jesus fulfilled prophecy, you have done better than the rest of the people in Nazareth, for they did not believe.
- Do you believe with all your heart that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God?
- How does that belief affect your life?
