04.03.2017 – Old Testament: Jdg 10.17–18
To read the Bible in a year, read Judges 10–11 on April 3, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
Israel sinned again, and the Lord rebuked them for it and sent an oppressive foreign power against them. Later, Israel repented and cried to the Lord. Then they sought a man to lead them against their enemy,
Then the people of Ammon gathered together and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled together and encamped in Mizpah. And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said to one another, “Who is the man who will begin the fight against the people of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead” (Judges 10.17–18).
Not everyone can lead and some definitely should not lead, nevertheless, the Lord’s people need leaders, and in this case, Israel recognized that fact. However, at first they did not know who to get.
When they did some thinking, they figured out who would do well to lead them. He eventually accepted their offer and became one of the famous judges.
- Who did Israel get at their leader at this time?
- Do you recognize your need for leadership?
- What can you do to insure that the church always has the leaders that it needs?
