Begging to be with Jesus

Luke Bible Background

04.02.2017 – New Testament: Luke 8.38–39

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 8.22–56 on April 2, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

Jesus cast a legion of demons out of a man, and grateful he wanted to be with Jesus forever,

Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him (Luke 8.38–39).

Being with Jesus while He lived on the Earth would have been awesome, but since He is the Lord, He wanted this man to do something else. The man loved Jesus enough to do what Jesus wanted, and did it with all his heart.

Questions:

  • Are you willing to cast aside your ideas for the church and do what the Lord wants done?
  • Have you been offended before because someone in the church did not accept your idea?
