The size of Israel coming out of Egypt and entering the Land of Canaan staggers the mind, especially when you imagine that they lived in a wilderness for 40 years. Look at the size of Benjamin alone,
The sons of Benjamin were…twenty-two thousand and thirty-four mighty men of valor…twenty thousand two hundred mighty men of valor…seventeen thousand two hundred mighty men of valor fit to go out for war and battle… (1 Chronicles 7.6–12).
That was just one tribe out of twelve! The Lord promised Abraham to multiply his descendants and the Lord did just what He said He would do. Anyone surprised?
- Did God know everyone of those men from the tribe of Benjamin?
- The number above was only of the fighting men. If we factor in the women, the children, and those too old to fight, how large would the tribe of Benjamin have been?
