To read the Bible in a year, read John 8.21–36 on May 22, In the year of our Lord 2017

O, to be free! Jesus came to the Earth to set us free from bondage. Yet, some people think that they are not in bondage. They should listen to Jesus teach,
They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8.33–36).
They had been in political bondage in Egypt, then during the time of the Judges, and in Assyria and Babylon, and to the Persians, the Greeks, and at that time to the Romans! How could they speak of being free?
Yet, Jesus addressed none of those. Rather He addressed the bondage that matters. If you have political freedom, but not spiritual freedom, you live in the worse bondage, that of sin.
- Are you in political bondage?
- Are you in spiritual bondage?
