Denying that we are disciples of Christ

John Bible Background

06.09.2017 New Testament: John 18.17

To read the Bible in a year, read John 18.1–23 on June 9, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

Peter placed himself in the area where Jesus stood on trial. However, Peter could see what was about to happen to Jesus, and fear filled the heart of the disciple, so that he even feared a servant girl,

Then the servant girl who kept the door said to Peter, “You are not also one of this Man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not” (John 18.17).

He had already forgotten the promise that he made to Jesus just a short time before, that Peter would go to jail or even die for Jesus, and certainly not deny Him.

However, untested promises are easy to make. Then we face the world and suddenly it becomes harder to keep those promises.

  • Have you ever denied Jesus or denied being a Christian?
  • After you realized your denial, what did you do?
