Something to say to your preacher

Colossians Bible Background

10.12.2017 – New Testament: Col 4.17

To read the Bible in a year, read Colossians 4 on October 12, In the year of our Lord 2017

Archippus must have been the preacher at the church in Colossae or at least someone who devoted his life to the church there, for Paul wanted the church to remind Archippus of something,

And say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it” (Colossians 4.17).

What Paul wanted the church to say to Archippus, should also be said to every preacher and teacher in the church. The Lord has set us aside with a ministry in mind. Let us carefully fulfill it.

Questions:

  • What do you think about the current quality of preachers?
  • What can you do to make sure that preachers fulfill their ministry?

    • That is correct. I suppose I have been guilty of that. I have had to remind myself of this passage: “Better a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who will be admonished no more” (Ecclesiastes 4.13). Put “preacher” in place of “king” and you have the same truth.
