10.21.2017 – Old Testament: Jer 5.26–29
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 5–6 on October 21, In the year of our Lord 2017

Judah did not fear the Lord but had a defiant and rebellious heart (Jeremiah 5.20–25). Then the Lord said that He had found something that should not have been there and He showed the consequences of having it,
“For among My people are found wicked men;
They lie in wait as one who sets snares;
They set a trap;
They catch men.
As a cage is full of birds,
So their houses are full of deceit.
Therefore they have become great and grown rich.
They have grown fat, they are sleek;
Yes, they surpass the deeds of the wicked;
They do not plead the cause,
The cause of the fatherless;
Yet they prosper,
And the right of the needy they do not defend.
Shall I not punish them for these things?” says the LORD.
“Shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?”
The Lord set up Israel as the holy nation on earth, yet, wicked men lived there without anyone stopping their wickedness. They lived lives centered on themselves, but the Lord promised that He would be avenged on them for living in those ways.
- For whom do you live?
- Do you see that the Lord watches you?
