The Lord executes the thoughts of His heart

Jeremiah Bible Background

10.28.2017 – Old Testament: Jer 23.18–20

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 23–24 on October 28, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

The Lord eventually reaches the point that He makes a decision against the wicked and He does not back down until He has carried out His thoughts completely,

For who has stood in the counsel of the LORD,
And has perceived and heard His word?
Who has marked His word and heard it?
Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD has gone forth in fury—
A violent whirlwind!
It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.
The anger of the LORD will not turn back
Until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart.
In the latter days you will understand it perfectly.
(Jeremiah 23.18–20)

Praise God that we can count on Him to do what He says He will do, but that should be a message to everyone, that even as He has operated in the past, so He will operate in the future. If we are living in wickedness, let us repent immediately.

  • Would you characterize your life as wicked, righteous, or somewhere between?
  • What do you need to do right now to walk closer to the Lord?
