God silenced heaven for the sake of our prayers

Revelation Bible Background

12.17.2017 – New Testament: Rev 8.3–4

To read the Bible in a year, read Revelation 8 on December 17, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

When Jesus opened the seventh seal of the scroll that He had taken from the Father, silence followed. Then John saw the seven angels who stand before God and they were each given trumpets, but they did blast with the trumpets yet. John saw this next,

Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand (Revelation 8.3–4).

Silence occurred in heaven for about half an hour that this angel might present the prayers of the saints to God. The angel also mixed incense with those prayers, making them a sweet smelling aroma to the God of heaven.

  • What else could the Bible show us that emphasizes how important our prayers are to God?
  • Are you ready to pray to God more often?
