The kingdom of the Lord consumes the nations

Obadiah Bible Background

12.17.2017 – Old Testament: Oba 19–21

To read the Bible in a year, read Obadiah on December 17, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

The nation of Esau, known as Edom, had exalted itself, believing that no one could bring them down, and that arrogance led them into sin. The Lord spoke through Obadiah that He would bring down Edom and that His people would occupy the land of its brother (Jacob and Esau were brothers),

The South shall possess the mountains of Esau,
And the Lowland shall possess Philistia.
They shall possess the fields of Ephraim
And the fields of Samaria.
Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
And the captives of this host of the children of Israel
Shall possess the land of the Canaanites
As far as Zarephath.
The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
Shall possess the cities of the South.
Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion
To judge the mountains of Esau,
And the kingdom shall be the LORD’S.
(Obadiah 19–21)

Revelation 11.15 speaks of that happening and shows that it is the church. The church continues to spread all over the earth in the face of nations falling and rising. Nothing occupies the land of its enemies like the church does, which is the Israel of God.

Questions:

  • Are you an active member of the church where you live?
  • If not, why not?
