The Lord is king over all the earth

Zechariah Bible Background

12.30.2017 – Old Testament: Zec 14.9–11

To read the Bible in a year, read Zechariah 13–14 on December 30, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

Zechariah 12–13 revealed the crucifixion of the Messiah and Zechariah 14 shows His day when He fights the nations and He reigns over all the earth, just as He does now. The prophet wrote,

And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be—”The LORD is one,” And His name one.

This is a current reality. Jesus and the Father are one (John 10.30), and Jesus has authority over all the earth right now (Matthew 28.18), and He does it all with the church on top (Ephesians 1.20–23). Therefore, watch how it is in the church,

All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her place from Benjamin’s Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. The people shall dwell in it; And no longer shall there be utter destruction, But Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited (Zechariah 14.9–11).

All surroundings become a plain and Jerusalem is lifted up, just as prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 2.1–4). Truly, we see God’s glory in the church (Ephesians 3.21).

  • Jesus reigns over the earth, but does He reign in your heart?
  • Do you show His reign by doing whatever He says?
