As you read of the awesome glorious beauty of the city that Revelation 21 pictures, be sure to remember that an angel introduced the imagery to John by telling him he would see the Lamb’s wife (which is the church), and then the angel showed John a great city, descending out of heaven from God (Revelation 21.9–10). Starting at verse 10, you see the church glorified, symbolized by a city beyond compare. John saw the foundations of the wall of the city,
The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst (Revelation 21.19–20).
Have you ever seen any kind of a structure, especially a city, that had its foundation with such adornment? If the foundation found such adornment, what shall the rest of the city be like? What shall the church’s beauty be in heaven?
- Are you a faithful member of the church?
- If not, why not?
- What are you allowing to keep you from the glory that awaits you?
