Rachel demanded that Jacob give her children, but that made him angry and he told her that he was not in the place of God. She told him to take her handmaid and Rachel would have children through the handmaid,

So she said, “Here is my maid Bilhah; go in to her, and she will bear a child on my knees, that I also may have children by her.” Then she gave him Bilhah her maid as wife, and Jacob went in to her. And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. Then Rachel said, “God has judged my case; and He has also heard my voice and given me a son.” Therefore she called his name Dan (Genesis 30.3–6).

After Jacob rebuked Rachel, she must have prayed to God and she believed that Bilhah having a son was God’s answer to her prayer. She said that God had judged her case, because her sister Leah, was having children and Rachel held that against her sister. Truly, God was with both women and with Jacob.
