By Don Ruhl
The Lord wanted Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt. Therefore, when Pharaoh commanded that all male Hebrew babies be thrown into the river, the mother of Moses did not drown him in the river, but made a little ark, a basket, that he might float down the river,
Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children” (Exodus 2.5–6).
Yet, Pharaoh’s daughter did not take Moses out of the basket and throw him into the river, but she had his own mother nurse him and after weaning him, Pharaoh’s daughter raised him as her own son, which meant that he was as a grandson to Pharaoh!
The Lord had Pharaoh and his daughter rear the very man who later would deliver Israel from Pharaoh, although a different Pharaoh.
