What would you have thought was the first commandment?

Matthew Bible Background

03.09.2018 – New Testament: Mark 12.28

To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 12.28–44 on March 9, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

A scribe heard how the Lord had silenced the Sadducees. Then the scribe came up with his own question,

Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” (Mark 12.28).

It is easy for us to answer that question, because Jesus already did it for us. However, how would you have answered it, if you had lived back then and you had heard people arguing about the first commandment?

  • Why do we need to know what is the first commandment?
  • Do you know what the second commandment is?
