Do what you can until the day of your death

Joshua Bible Background

03.24.2018 – Old Testament: Jos 13.1–7

To read the Bible in a year, read Joshua 11–13 on March 24, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

Joshua assisted Moses in leading Israel out of Egypt and then through the wilderness for 40 years. After Moses died, Joshua led Israel into the Land of Canaan and led them in destroying the Canaanites and helping Israel to inherit the land that the Lord had given to each tribe. However, as much as he did, as his death approached, Israel still needed to conquer more land,

Now Joshua was old, advanced in years. And the LORD said to him: “You are old, advanced in years, and there remains very much land yet to be possessed. This is the land that yet remains…them I will drive out from before the children of Israel; only divide it by lot to Israel as an inheritance, as I have commanded you…” (Joshua 13.1–7).

Joshua did not retire from working for the Lord and for His people, but continued to do what the Lord wanted done. He could not do it all, but he did what he could and what the Lord expected of him.
