To read the Bible in a year, read Joshua 16–18 on March 26, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

Israel had entered the Land of Canaan, but seven of the tribes had not received their land. Therefore, Joshua spoke to the tribes,

“Pick out from among you three men for each tribe, and I will send them; they shall rise and go through the land, survey it according to their inheritance, and come back to me. And they shall divide it into seven parts. Judah shall remain in their territory on the south, and the house of Joseph shall remain in their territory on the north. You shall therefore survey the land in seven parts and bring the survey here to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God. But the Levites have no part among you, for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance. And Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them” (Joshua 18.4–7).

When the Lord makes promises, He keeps them, even if the fulfillment happens many generations later. In this case, He used the leadership of Joshua to see to it that every tribe inherited their part in the Land of Canaan.

Questions:

  • What is the ultimate thing that you shall inherit from the Lord?
  • Have you received an inheritance? If not money, maybe it was a collection, or something else.
